Whether it's heartbreak, a farewell party, bad news or heightened sensitivity, whatever the reason, tears are sometimes inevitable, and they can ruin your makeup for the rest of the day. While it's difficult to totally avoid this inconvenience -- unless you're a fan of waterproof makeup (and even then...) -- it's still possible to salvage your makeup with a specific, easy-to-master beauty technique. At least, that's what the professional makeup artistJoelle Phillipssuggests in a TikTok tutorial seen nearly 100,000 times.

In response to another content creator,Shonda Martin, makeup artist Joelle Phillips shows everyone how to quickly fix makeup that's been ruined by tears. All you need is a soft-bristle brush, some concealer, a spoolie brow brush and a powder puff. These tools and products are essential for repairing any damage caused by crying, so it's a good idea to always have them with you, or within easy reach, to deal with this type of inconvenience. Once you've assembled these beauty essentials, it's time to get started.

According to the professional makeup artist, the first mistake to avoid is reapplying makeup immediately after crying. Contrary to what you might think, you should wait for the tears -- and therefore the makeup -- to dry before applying more products. The aim is not to ruin your makeup any further. Once your face is dry, use the spoolie brush to remove any clumps and residues of makeup formed by the tears. Don't do this by hand if you want smooth and clean results!

Then simply apply a concealer. Here, the expert recommends using a soft-bristled brush instead of a concealer brush or applicator, and tapping it on slowly to help the product penetrate without spreading it too thickly. Allow the concealer to dry, then blend with a puff to distribute the product evenly. The final step is to apply a setting spray or powder to set everything in place. And that's it! You'll have no reason to fear tears, whether out with friends or at the office.
